Indigenous Land Rights Secured for the Rama Nation in Nicaragua in a joint project with Earth Links Inc over 10 years 1,000,000 acres were secured by Rama in southern Nicaragua through a coalition of International NGOs and Nonprofits. Three Americas provided equipment and flights for Jerry Mueller (environmental geographer) and primary researched/advocate. GPS/ESRI software, cameras, computers/computer training donated and combined with support for aerial photography trips and office space for assembling maps. Emergency radios, satellite phones, solar power/batteries for Rama Communities being assaulted. Financial support for attorney Maria Luisa through Three Americas Inc. resulted in the recognition of land rights as a human right by the Central American Parliament.
Award winning video documentaries on land rights and uses were supported and co-produced by Three Americas and Earth Links; (Our Land, Our Future; Our Place on Earth).
The Natural environments and endangered species preserved are priceless as are indigenous communities/culture preserved.
Significant support of computers, computer labs, software and training were provided throughout the indigenous university system, URRACAN as a parallel project to the assistance with land rights.
